Accessing Online Resources
You will need to authenticate using your CIT credentials to access full text. To maximize your online search experience, follow these steps:
- Add us to your Google Scholar settings.
- Install the Library Proxy Bookmarklet to bypass paywalls.
- From library.ucar.edu, search for e-resources by title or use the Search by DOI box.

Borrowing Books and Other Print Materials
All current staff members have borrowing privileges from the NSF NCAR Library and are encouraged to browse the collections. A self-checkout kiosk is available at each library location.
- Find the item you need in the Library catalog.
- Either find the book yourself and use the self-checkout kiosk to check out the book using your CIT credentials, or
- Place the item on hold and select your preferred pick-up location. Library staff will email you when it's ready.
- The checkout period is 6 months, with the option to renew.
Returning Materials
You do not need to return a book to the location where you borrowed it, if another option is more convenient for you. To return items to the NSF NCAR Library, use any of the following options:
- Leave in the ML Library book return slot, located in the Information Desk.
- Leave in the FL Library book return slot, located in the wall outside the Library’s badge entrance.
- Send via interoffice mail to ML Library or FL Library.

Interlibrary Loan
If you need resources that you cannot find at the NCAR Library, please use our Interlibrary Loan form. You can use this same form to request a purchase.
Library Access
Only NSF NCAR and UCAR employees and official visitors may borrow library resources.
About the Library Collections
The NSF NCAR Library Collection supports and enhances the organizational mission to expand knowledge in science, engineering, and learning through research and training in atmospheric and related Earth system sciences. Materials that support staff and organizational initiatives, such as in the areas of project management and communication, are also included. Library Collection Policy.
